I have the author's first book "Essential Oils for Animals", and find it to be the most comprehensive, safe book for those already familiar with essential oils, but want to know more on how to use them for animals.This book, "The Aromatic Dog", is a condensed version of her first book, specific to dogs. It's especially great for those who are new to essential oils or new to using it for their dog. The book gives a very basic, but important overview of explaining essential oils, hydrosols, and carrier oils. Not only what they are, and how they are created, but why to use them. All that information in a few well written, easy to understand paragraphs so you don't get overwhelmed with information, there are plenty of other books on that if you want more. In this book she gets more specific on how to select the right/best oil for your dog, and how to allow the dog to safely self-select. Rather than considering all the VERY MANY essential oils available, she concentrates on providing the profiles of 26 commonly used/easy to obtain essential oils, 9 hydrosols, and 8 carrier/herbal oils. She also provides a list for "General Use Starter Kit" of 10 EOs, 3 hydrosols and 4 carrier oils. There is a cross reference chart ('Cliff Notes" of the profiles), and a chart for over 150 specific conditions. There is also a section on how to make aromatic lotions. Most importantly, which is not emphasized enough in other books (in my opinion), she goes over safety issues. At the end of the book is a small section of resources. The book may only be 139 pages, but they are packed with lots of great information, presented in an easy to understand format, in a way that is very useful. I will be recommending this book to several friends and family members.

Just start using the oils with my puppy and following the instruction is easy and simple. Not sure I am reading correctly the puppy's signals but at least I am trying. Plus my puppy smell amazing all the time ;)

I love most of the ideas in this book but do not like that she seems to eschew traditional veterinary medicine. Overall, a worthwhile read.
This is an awesome book. Very helpful how to use my oils to help my dog. I just received today and love it so much am buying another for my daughter.
The book is well worth the time and price. I like her approach to allowing your animal to make their own decisions. I wish there were pictures but that's not all that necessary.
For a thin book, it's full of info!! The first part discusses differences between essential oil and hydrosols. It also has recipes on how to make gel etc. More importantly, it has a bit on safety use and application.
For the individual oils etc, Nayana gave the a short history and description, it's uses, safety and caution, as well as dilution. It also has a section where you can search for a certain condition and see which oils/hydrosols are to be used. It even has a list of her suppliers!!
