Former Rain (Rain Series Book 1) - edition by Vanessa Miller. Literature & Fiction eBooks @ . Reviews
What a great read! I love Vanessa Miller books and I'm so glad I picked this one up. Not sure how I missed this one. It was excellently written as always and it held my attention. The characters were well developed as they take you on adventures between this world and the outer realms. The end was very interesting. I can't wait to read the next book in the series to see what happens next. It is indeed a page turner.
I read this book with a slight degree of skepticism . While it was a bit simplistic in its message , it was fulfilling . I am looking forward to the next book in the series .
This was an amazing read!!! My problem with Christian books are that they are boring or corny. This was neither! Vanessa is definitely gifted to creatively bring the gospel. I found myself laughing so hard at Elizabeth and how she struggled to follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Times I would be like, 'Why wont you just do what He told you to do??' And then the Holy Spirit would convict me- like good question. . .LOL I gained so much strength from reading this book. Definitely a must read.
This book was outstanding the author Vanessa Miller has excellent writing skills and brings this story to life. I have enjoyed the entire series I have not been able to put down any of her books. She captions your attention and brings fiction into real life events. She has brought strong emotions out of me with her writing. She shows the (Awesome Power of God) in Redemption, and His amazing Grace. The characters are so real and storyline makes you feel like you are apart of the story. Her books although fiction have also ministered to me in great ways and you can still hear (God Speaking) in her books. I am very impressed and grateful for Vanessa Miller and will continue to support her writings. Hat off to her she has done a great job.
A MUST READ......I know a lot of times you read reviews and they are not really in depth. I do not like spoilers so the less information I get the better. If you read any of Vanessa Miller's books, I can promise you, you will not be disappointed. If you are "I'll" refund your money back and I don't even know the lady, lol.....it will leave you feeling hopeful, refreshed, unable to put it down and anxious to read the next book
This is a very real kind of story that will grab your interest from the very beginning. This isn't a sugar coated story. It can be gritty at times but you will root for Nina as she becomes a Christian and begins to turn her life around. Elizabeth is something else and has so much work to do to turn her life around after she becomes a Christian. Both women have so much stacked against them but as they pray and seek God he answers prayers in their lives. Vanessa Miller writes with an anointing on her life. I could feel God's presence so strong at times while reading that tears came to my eyes. I strongly recommend reading the whole series!
If you don't know God you should find out about him. Some people think when your young you have plenty of time to get your party on and when you get older you can turn to God. But not so, if you were to take but an hour a day out to get to know our savior through his word you would understand that there's a Holy Ghost party going on that is so awesome. You can get as high as you want on the word of God and won't get arrested for being high or drunk. Jesus is the way, the truth and the light. If you don't know pick up your bible ask God for directions and step into the party of Christ. Be blessed. Doris
I'm sure you've read the descriptions and reviews of others. I won't lie after reading a few other books, I slept on this one and the skills of Vanessa Miller. Big mistake! I am not into those African-American books dealing with the dirt that goes on in many of our communities. So I was turned off and closed my mind to this book but after having finished all my other books and being on a business trip, I thought I'd go ahead and read it. I thought I wouldn't like this book because of the setting and the characters. I feel as though, many (Christian) books have pretty boring/slow/uneventful beginnings, often taking forever to get to the nitty gritty while pushing religion so much that your drowning out the story line leaving you struggling to make it through the book. This is not the case with Former Rain or Vanessa Miller's Rain series. She doesn't forsake the importance of including messages in connection with God or christianity but does it in a real, down-to-earth, believable manner which we in the real (not novel) world would have encounters with God ourselves.
The characters pull you in and there are a few twists and turns. Even though a couple of twists are a little predictable, the book leaves you wanting more and now I am here to buy the rest of the series. Make sure you read these in order though Vanessa Miller provides you the background and snippets from the other books to help you understand where's she's going it's best to read them in this correct order Former Rain, Abundant Rain, Latter Rain, Rain Storm and Through the Storm. It's a good read that deserves 5 stars that will make you appreciate that God reaches out and uses all people. That's what His people are comprised of, real people with real issues facing the consequences of their actions but experiencing His grace and mercy through the rain!
